In 1991, revered British designer Caroline Castigliano established her first bridal boutique in Surrey. Specialising in bespoke wedding dress designs that range from vintage to bold contemporary shapes, her signature method includes stunning corsetry to give every bride a beautiful silhouette on her special day. Available at selected stockists, including Les Trois Soeurs, Caroline loves creating dresses that are simple, classic and beautifully cut in luxury fabrics.

“What inspires me,” Caroline explains, “is creating a dress that makes a woman feel as she has never felt before. It’s very special. The bride I design for definitely understands style. She has personal inner confidence and knows who she is as a woman. Her gown is there to say everything about her; her personality and her style. And that’s where I come in: to help her exude glamorous, chic, feminine style on her wedding day.”

When it comes to beautiful bridal design, Caroline says the most important elements are cut and movement: “The foundations of the gown have to be good for the dress to ever work, but it must also have movement. I cut my gowns to really dance which is vital in a truly beautiful gown.”

Of course, every woman has a unique shape and Caroline has plenty of advice to ensure that brides can find the ideal gowns to flatter their bodies. “Bias cut is difficult to wear unless you have a very firm body,” she says. “People imagine that bias is best on skinny girls, but this is just not the case; firm is the only essential requirement! If you are full busted avoid a boat neck as it will make your bust look two or three cup sizes larger. And avoid a strapless dress if you have very narrow shoulders as it immediately creates the illusion of having no shape, even if you have a fabulous, curvaceous figure.

“Classic 50s styling, with beautiful clean lines, is the hottest trend that will never date,” she adds.

Whatever silhouette and style you choose, Caroline stresses that it is crucial to invest in a very special gown for your wedding day. “This is the one day and one dress that will be looked back on forever, saying everything about you as a woman. You need a gown made to fit the contours of your body, cut to perfection in luxury fabric.”

If you’re looking for that perfect dress, Caroline says there are three key things to bear in mind; the overall look you want to create (vintage, classic or romantic, for example); being true to yourself by finding the gown you have dreamt of since you were a little girl (“This is not the time to be grown up and sensible,” Caroline adds); and working with a boutique that has an excellent reputation and understands the product they are selling.

And Caroline says that smaller boutiques like Les Trois Soeurs are passionate about what they do and provide a superb service to their clients “In a small boutique you are a very important client,” she explains. “You will deal with the same person all the time. They are there from the beginning to make sure you are happy and everything runs smoothly.

“I met Terri a year ago and she is enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with. I instantly knew she was passionate about her boutique and wanted to offer brides the special and unique service they deserve.”
