Jo Malone Lifestyle Director, Debbie Wild, expresses the Jo Malone London philosophy of Fragrance Combining as well as tailoring scents for weddings.

Where did the idea of Fragrance Combining™ originate from?

Fragrance Combining™ was originally born from the idea that fragrance can be tailored to embrace a mood or occasion, or simply to express your individuality.  Each Jo Malone London fragrance has been designed to be worn alone or combined with other fragrances, layering scents and textures to create a fragrance that is bespoke and personal to you.

How does Fragrance Combining™ work?

You can simply layer different fragrances to tailor your scent, whether this be freshening up a floral with a citrus zing or adding spice for an alluring warmth. You can adjust your fragrance combination to suit your mood, style or the season, knowing that whatever you choose will be unique to you.

Why is fragrance so personal?

You will find some scents are personal to you that they will evoke memories and trigger emotional responses.  The way you choose to wear your fragrance contributes to any first lasting memory and impression any you wish to create.

How can we create our own fragrance?

Through playing and experimenting with Fragrance Combining™.  First discover which fragrance family you relate to.  At Jo Malone London there are six fragrance families: Citrus, Fruity, Light Floral, Floral, Spicy and Woody.  Once you have decided on a family that suits your style, spend time getting to know the scents to find your distinctive scent combination.

As you know, peony is a very popular flower in the wedding scenes.  Which other Jo Malone™ fragrances can be layered in the wedding ceremony with the Peony & Blush Suede?

The peony is such a delicate, beautiful flower, so widely adored for its romantic and blousy appeal which makes it the perfect bridal fragrance. A wonderful bridal combination for Peony & Blush Suede is Orange Blossom. Orange blossom, a traditional bloom in floral bouquets, is a symbol for good fortune and happiness for a newly-wedded couple making it a sought after scent for brides. Alternatively, and perhaps more unusual, is the combination of Peony & Blush Suede with Red Roses. Like a freshly cut bouquet the voluptuous blend of seven exquisite roses adds modern romance with a clean and surprisingly fresh lift.

Are there any other Jo Malone London items which can be used in the wedding scenes?

Jo Malone London offers a Bridal Consultation in all boutiques, where you can discover and explore different ways to scent your wedding day.  Scented candles add touches of style to the aisle, tables and reception space, and create an aroma to envelop the guests, for a lasting memory. The flicker Orange Blossom candles scattered around the ceremony venue is incredibly romantic and enchanting.  You may choose to combine scents for different parts of the day, or different areas in the venue.  A reception space will lend itself well to a floral aroma; the elegant combination of Peony & Blush Suede with Red Roses will fill the room. Seated for the speeches, surprise guests with a hand-bowed Travel Candle or Bath Oil at their table in your wedding scent is a thoughtful touch for them to take home.  To complete the sensorial experience at your wedding, lightly spritz a linen spray over napkins and the table cloth to lift the scent of the candles and floral arrangements

Which scent do you suggest to use in the Wedding scene other than Peony & Blush Suede in the Jo Malone London Family? How could it be layered in each scene (ceremony/reception/ party)?

Wild Bluebell captures the delicate sweetness of dewy bluebells suffused with lily of the valley and eglantine – a truly charming and whimsical scent.  Wild Bluebell is a beautiful scent for brides and for scenting a wedding space, and has been often chosen as their “something blue” – a tradition for good luck for the wedding day.

Which scents would you recommend for the bride and groom?

The bride and groom will want their scents to complement each other on the day.  The bride may choose to wear Orange Blossom, which will interlace with the groom’s Amber & Lavender.  These scents together offer a clean and aromatic scent combined with a fruity freshness – the perfect match.
